  1. In mathematics, a diagram representing a set
  2. or sets and the logical relationships between
  3. them. Sets are drawn as circles. An area of
  4. overlap between two circles (sets) contains
  5. elements that are common to both sets, and
  6. thus represents a third set. Circles that do
  7. not overlap represent sets with no elements
  8. in common (disjoint sets). The method is
  9. named after the British logician John Venn
  10. (1834-1923).
